Trident University International (TUI), located in Cypress, California, is a for-profit university owned by Summit Partners. All courses are delivered online. Trident University is a former branch campus of Touro College, which was founded in 1970 in New York City, New York. Trident University offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree programs in Business, Health Sciences, Education, and Information Systems. Although Trident University is regionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, its accreditation is threatened by allegations that it has "fail[ed] to ensure that students transferring in [to its undergraduate program] had fulfilled their general education requirements and, more importantly, [failed] to tell the accreditor about the problem."[1][2]

TUI University

"TUIU was recognized by the Department of Education as a stand-alone institution on October 16, 2007. On October 31, 2007, Summit Partners, a private-equity firm located in Palo Alto, California, and Boston, Massachusetts, purchased a majority interest in TUIU. Two affiliated Summit Partners’ funds hold an ownership interest of 85 percent. The remaining ownership interest is held by TUIU’s President/Chief Executive Officer (10 percent) and Touro College (5 percent)."[3] Summit Partners reorganized TUI as a for-profit institution and changed the name to TUI University.
